Resourcing the Australian Curriculum

At the heart of the Curriculum: Government maps plan for Asian Century success

The Australian Government has released its Asian Century white paper and outlined ways to take advantage of the region's boom in the areas of economy, education and skills, commerce, regional security and culture, but how has the road map been greeted?
For further understanding view the following video clips:
"Where will Australia fit into the Asian Century?"
  "Asian Languages."
 "China Connection."
"PM's plan for every child to learn an Asian language."

What is Asia literacy?

The idea of Asia literacy is that by the time they leave school, a strong cohort of young Australians will speak an Asian language and all young Australians will have foundational and deep knowledge, skills and understanding of the histories, geographies, arts and literature of the diverse countries of Asia
The new Australian Curriculum includes the cross-curriculum priority of Asia and Australia's engagement with Asia in every subject from Foundation to Year 12.

Resources:
I have been collecting pins for my Australian Curriculum Resources board and on my library weblinks site: Australian Curriculum Resources  because not all pages are able to be pinned.
I have discovered that there are so many wonderful free, quality resources already available- You just need to know where to look!!
I hope my collections can help you find suitable resources to suit your school learning community.

TODAY is World Teachers' Day

On this day, we call for teachers to receive supportive environments, adequate quality training as well as ‘safeguards’ for teachers’ rights and responsibilities...We expect a lot from teachers – they, in turn, are right to expect as much from us. This World Teachers’ Day is an opportunity for all to take a stand

       Irina Bokova, UNESCO Director-General
Check out more news and facts and figures on World Teachers' Day from UNESCO.

Take a stand for teachers is the slogan for this year's World Teachers' Day (today !)Follow the tweets on   :)

World Teachers’ Day, held annually on October 5th since 1994 - when it was created by UNESCO - celebrates teachers worldwide. Its aim is to mobilise support for teachers and to ensure that the needs of future generations will continue to be met by teachers.

The International Council on Education for Teaching (ICET) is an international association of policy and decision-makers in education, government and business dedicated to improving educational experiences and outcomes in all parts of the world. In their newsletter they wrote about "TAKE A STAND FOR TEACHING!" All teachers are welcome to join the association.

I give a Gonski...Do you? Should you?

I have previously posted about the Gonski report released in February. I feel it is imperative that it be followed up and not swept under the mat to save MONEY $$$$. EDUCATION is our future and it is well worth finding the money to pay for it.

For those who are not yet aware of this important educational report I offer some info:
Q. What’s the Gonski report?
A. "A report into education finding in Australia handed down today by a panel of experts, led by businessman David Gonski, who, among many other credentials, is the Chancellor of the University of New South Wales. This is the biggest review of school funding since 1973." from A Cheat's Guide to the Gonski Report

"The Gonski report on funding education has recommended a new model for school funding that would mean all students are entitled to a set level of funding regardless of where they go to school, disadvantaged schools receive more funding, and taxpayer funding for private schools is adjusted down based on parents' capacity to pay."
You can access and read the full report:

Review of Funding for Schooling - Department of Education . (aka Gonski Report)

The Gonski report shares the view that "all students should have the same chance to achieve their very best despite their background or circumstances."
I strongly recommend you do your own research, the full report is readily available online for everyone to read and a summary is located at the “I give a Gonski” website.

Newspaper article:  State adopts Gonski ideas

Newspaper article: When it comes to education, we're all class
A sad reflection from the Gonski report  : "For a country that claims to be all about the 'fair go', we have an education system riven by inequality and class division."

News that Disability Education could be boosted by Gonski Report.
"The federal government is holding consultations on Australia's education funding model in the wake of the Gonski report. The report recommends a base level of funding per student which would then be scaled based on the level of disadvantage they face. Disability groups hope the findings, and the National Disability Insurance Scheme, will provide an answer to under-resourced education for disabled kids."  Stephanie Gotlib

Executive Officer, Children with a Disability Australia appeared on Radio National Breakfast May 21 2012
